Harmonizing Social Transformations: An Erasmus+ Project Using Art to Counteract the Negative Effects of Social Media
Social media has become an integral part of young people’s lives, but its impact is not always positive. Issues such as anxiety, digital addiction, social polarization, and misinformation are increasingly affecting younger generations. To address these challenges, the «Harmonizing Social Transformations: Mitigating the Negative Effects of Social Media through Art» project was created—an innovative initiative funded by Erasmus+ KA210-SCH.
Project Objectives
This project aims to mitigate the negative effects of social media on young people and equip teachers with innovative, art-based tools to address these issues in the classroom. Using music, theater, visual arts, and digital storytelling, the project promotes critical thinking, empathy, and emotional well-being in the digital space.
The specific objectives include:
- Developing educational materials based on art to help young people build a healthy digital identity.
- Creating training and guidance programs for teachers on responsible social media use in education.
- Promoting cultural awareness and preventing social media-induced polarization.
- Implementing creative activities that allow young people to express themselves and better manage their emotions in the digital world.
Partners and Participants
The project is led by ENIAIO EIDIKO EPAGGELMATIKO GYMNASIO – LYKEIO MESOLOGGIOY in Greece, with the following partner institutions:
- Agrupamento de Escolas de Muralhas do Minho (Portugal): Experienced in inclusive and digital education.

First Online Management Meeting Successfully Held! 🎉
As part of the initial steps in project implementation, the consortium successfully conducted its first online management meeting. Representatives from all partner organizations gathered to discuss key aspects of the project, including:
✔ Project timeline and activity planning
✔ Roles and responsibilities of each partner
✔ Implementation strategies for the artistic interventions
✔ Communication and dissemination plans
This meeting marked the beginning of a strong collaboration between partners, setting a solid foundation for the successful execution of the project.
Key Activities
The project includes four major activities, each focusing on a specific aspect of combating social media’s negative effects:
🎶 «Harmony of Art and Universal Melodies» (Greece)
Through music, participants will explore how art can promote cultural unity and digital well-being. Activities include composition workshops, music exchange sessions, and the creation of a global playlist featuring songs from each participating country.
🎭 «Empathy in the Digital Age: A Theatrical Approach» (Spain)
This activity focuses on using theater to foster empathy in digital communication. Through role-playing and theatrical performances, participants will learn how to handle conflicts on social media and develop more respectful communication skills.
🎨 «Painted Horizons: Unveiling Artistic Expressions» (Portugal)
An art festival exploring how social media influences artistic expression. The event will include exhibitions, painting workshops, and interactive sessions to raise awareness about the impact of digital environments on creativity.
🎬 «Digital Reflections: Unveiling Social Media Impact Through Drama» (Turkey)
Participants will use theater to portray real-life situations related to social media issues such as cyberbullying and digital addiction, encouraging critical reflection on these topics.
Expected Impact and Benefits
The project aims to create a significant change in how young people, educators, and families perceive and use social media. It is expected that:
✅ Teachers will acquire innovative tools to educate students on responsible social media use.
✅ Students will develop critical thinking skills and emotional management strategies in the digital environment.
✅ Communities will foster a more conscious and healthy approach to digital platforms.
