Digital Skills for Small Businesses: Discover the Free DigiSecureSMS Resources

Digital transformation offers significant opportunities for businesses, but it also creates new challenges. This is particularly true for micro and small enterprises, which often have limited time, staff and resources to introduce new technologies.

To address these needs, the Erasmus+ project Digital Competences – A Chance for a More Secure Tomorrow, also known as DigiSecureSMS, has developed a free learning platform featuring practical resources to strengthen the digital skills of small businesses, professionals, employees and adult learners.

M&M Profuture Training participated as the Spanish partner in this European project, coordinated by the Education, Health and Development Foundation from Poland.

A Free Platform to Support Digital Transformation

The DigiSecureSMS results are available free of charge in English, Spanish and Polish. The materials can be used independently, within a company or as supporting resources for adult education and professional training activities.

The platform brings together a comprehensive collection of educational resources:

• A digital competence guide for micro and small enterprises.
• Nine learning pathways adapted to different needs and experience levels.
• A modular online course.
• A digital skills self-assessment tool.
• Case studies from companies in Spain and Poland.
• Additional tools, resources and links for further learning.

All the content has been designed with a practical and flexible approach, allowing learners to select the topics that are most relevant to their professional activity or business needs.

Nine Pathways for Developing Digital Skills

One of the project’s main results is the creation of nine free learning pathways, aligned with the European Digital Competence Framework, DigComp.

1. Fundamentals of Digital Competences for Business Transformation

An introduction to digital tools, cybersecurity, automation and data-driven decision-making.

2. Digital Communication and Collaboration

Resources to improve the use of email, instant messaging, videoconferencing and online collaboration platforms.

3. Data Management and Analysis for Strategic Decision-Making

Practical content on collecting, organising, analysing and visualising business information using spreadsheets and management dashboards.

4. Innovation and Ethics in the Use of New Technologies

An introduction to artificial intelligence, automation and emerging technologies, with particular attention to their ethical and responsible use.

5. Digital Competences Basics: How to Get Started

A pathway for people with little or no previous digital experience who want to develop essential skills in a simple and progressive way.

6. Process Management and Automation

Tools and strategies for identifying repetitive tasks, organising projects and automating common business processes.

7. Digital Marketing and E-commerce

Guidance on developing an online presence, managing social media, creating digital campaigns and using e-commerce platforms.

8. Modern Technologies and Digital Transformation

Content covering cloud-based solutions, platform integration, digital maturity and change management within organisations.

9. Cybersecurity in Practice

Practical recommendations for protecting company and customer information, using secure communication channels and responding to potential security incidents.

In a previous M&M Profuture Training article, we introduced the main features of these nine pathways. All of them are now available through the project’s completed online platform.

Interactive Learning Supported by Artificial Intelligence

The learning pathways combine downloadable materials with interactive versions developed using NotebookLM.

This tool enables users to engage actively with the content, request explanations of complex concepts, generate summaries, analyse business examples and explore possible solutions to real workplace situations.

The platform therefore goes beyond presenting theoretical information. It provides a more personalised and practical learning experience adapted to the needs of each user.

Accessible Resources in Three Languages

All the project results are available in English, Spanish and Polish through an open-access platform designed in accordance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and universal design principles.

The resources can continue to be used by:

• Micro and small enterprises.
• Entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals.
• Managers and employees.
• Adult learners interested in improving their digital skills.
• Trainers, career advisers and educational organisations.
• Organisations supporting entrepreneurship and professional development.

European Cooperation for More Inclusive Digitalisation

DigiSecureSMS was developed within the Erasmus+ Programme under the action for small-scale partnerships in vocational education and training.

Cooperation between the Polish coordinating organisation and M&M Profuture Training made it possible to exchange experience, identify real needs and develop educational materials from a European perspective.

The project also included exchanges of good practices, workshops, testing and consultation processes, as well as dissemination activities in Spain and Poland.

Although the project has concluded, its results remain openly available and can continue supporting businesses, professionals and adult learners in their digital transformation.
