Green Pedagogy, therefore, aims to employ contact with the outside world, and with nature in particular to foster a more open curriculum, responsive to students’ interests, encouraging their curiosity in a way that traditional schooling cannot do.
If we do not accept that there is something wrong with the traditional school, however, it will be difficult to make a transition to green schools. These are not simply greener spaces, but are those that use contact with nature to foster certain values, acquire certain knowledge and promote certain attitudes.
Green Pedagogy based in outdoor education is a permanent process in which individuals and communities become aware of their environment and learn the knowledge, values, skills, experience and encompasses a set of concepts, ideas, attitudes, strategies, and tools, to accompany human development in contact with Nature.
Moreover, Eco-Schools programme is an ideal way for schools to embark on a meaningful path towards improving the environment in both the school and the local community while at the same time having a life-long positive impact on the lives of young people, their families, school staff and local authorities.
